Another advantage is being able to specify camera-calibrated focal lengths. Doing this in PhotoScan is done via a camera ICON field in Images. If you convert this field in a New Camera by the camera manufacturer, you can fine-tune this field to be as accurate as possible. Unfortunately, you can only convert this field and make it accurate for Pix4Dcloud’s own PhotoScan.

You can do this with the next field as well. ICON is a further customization field for “The major version number” field. See below in the section with “Inside the box:” on how to do this on my own.

The field lets you tell PhotoScan that the focal length should be measured from your camera, not from your lens. For example, you want PhotoScan to measure the focal lengths of your GoPro footage as similar as possible with your own camera. If this is done, you will notice that objects in PhotoScan are always a bit smaller than in the footage (right after they were shot). This is for better similarity and you can change this aspect at any time.

Another really useful field is ICON Color. By doing this, you can create a perfect color for the object you want to model before you render it. This can be especially useful for people with CIECAM02 color matching. In Metashape Professional’s settings you can enable, for example, the Red Green Blue Chromatic Abstraction Model when you create a scene.

You can create and use your own Reference Plane, similar to the one by Pix4Dcloud. This is a perfect way to model complex geometric forms. Thats what I did in my example here. But there are many others that you can do with PhotoScan as well.
